On the east side of Kidron Valley facing Jerusalem’s old city is a hill named Mount of Olives. It was named such because of the olive trees that grew along its hillside during the ancient time. It was believed then that Mount of Olives is the hill where the Messiah will come into sight and bring the dead back into life. It was this Jewish tradition that caused the entire hillside to be covered with thousands of grave stones because people then believed that the hillside of Mount Olive is the holiest cemetery.
Many events in the life of Jesus Christ were related to Mount of Olives. In the areas where Jesus had different encounters, churches were erected to commemorate these acts. Now on top of the hill is the hotel Seven Arches.
